The London 2012 Olympics offers more ways to follow the action than any previous games. As with many aspects of our lives, social media now offers viewers ways to connect with the events, each other, and even the athletes in ways that would not have been possible just a few years ago. BBC Click has a good run down of your viewing options, including:
- BBC Sport smartphone app with versions for Android, Apple, and Blackberry phones
- Eurosport player (UK only)
- Olympic Hub To help you follow athletes and connect with their social media accounts
- Olympics Twitter feed
- Olympics Facebook page with behind-the-scenes coverage
- Olympics Google Plus page
- Olympics on Tumblr
The Olympics are expected to cause some disruption to UK transport infrastructure, so the Get Ahead of the Games web site has been set up to let people plan their travel. ITGS students should take note of this and how technology is used to keep people up to date. Ask yourself – how does this system work? How is data collected, processed, and distributed? How do people benefit from this system? Who are the stakeholders?
Infact this olympics will exhibit the latest and one of the best technologies in the world. The development in London would also be unbelievable.
Indeed. And hopefully the opening ceremony won't be a pre-recorded computer generated version, unlike last time!
