Olympic cyclists train on computer simulation

The use of information technology in the Olympics seems never ending. In this short video, Australian cyclists are shown training on a “virtual reality” computer simulation of the London cycling route. Unable to practice on the real track, the Australian team collected data using a bike especially equipped with sensors, then imported this data to recreate London’s road mile-by-mile.

Not only the track layout is modelled: wind resistance and other variables are included, allowing athletes to test difficult equipment such as aerodynamic helmets.
